July Cubmaster Update

I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July weekend.  Here’s a quick recap of some of the pack’s recent activities along with what’s coming up.

Najavo Camp:

We had three of our Webelos scouts attend Najavo Camp.  While there they were able to earn several activity badges/belt loops and from what I’ve heard, can’t wait to go back for more!

Pack Fishing:

Our first summertime activity was a pretty good success.  For once the weather cooperated and we had a beautiful evening for fishing.  While the abundance of rain the previous weeks lead to higher water levels than normal and submerged some great fishing spots, our scouts were still able to reel in some fish.  Below are two photos of the many (okay, many might be stretching it) fish that were caught.  On top of fishing, our scouts were able to make their own lures with the help of Ranger Gordon of the National Park Service.

Upcoming Activities:

The second round of Camp Akela is soon approaching and if you have signed up you should be receiving an email from Dan Halsey with the logistics.

Our second summer activity is the Backyard Camping event on Friday, August 2.  Hopefully you have heard from your den leader on whose yard you’ll be camping in.  If you have not heard and/or you are willing to donate your backyard for your den, contact your den leader and Jennie Robinson Kloos at  The plan is for families to setup their tents and then head to Dodge Nature Center for a bonfire.  As a reminder, we are also collecting school supplies as part of this event.  If you have questions for the supplies, contact Nicole Watson at

Tuesday, August 20, is our last summer activity, a pack hike.  We are working out the details and will have updates in a future Pack Update email.

Cubmaster Minute:

I wanted to pass along the news that my family and I will be moving out of the area at the end of the month and consequently I will be stepping down as Cubmaster.  The leadership team is working on finding a replacement and will send out more once that person has been identified.  As an FYI, the email address will remain the same for future updates so keep this address handy.   I want to thank all of you for the opportunity to be Cubmaster and a special thanks to John Chandler for asking me.  Pack 9037 is a great pack, not only in terms of leadership and scouts, but parents as well.  I know you will continue to do great things.  Best of luck to you all and always remember to “Do Your Best!”
